My father was always tinkering with wood working so I have been around it for my entire life.  It was not until late in his life he found carving which he really loved.  I did not get serious about the craft until 2008 and my interest and skills (hopefully) have grown since then.  I love the creative process and seeing a useful product at the end.  My goal in woodworking is to become good enough that my kids fight over my work when I am gone.
